How to Choose a Baby Nursery Theme

You imagine your baby to be that perfect little miracle you've always dreamed of. And such a perfect little angel needs a perfect little room. Some people want to know the gender of the baby so they can design the nursery to a tee. When you think about your baby's nursery theme, there are a lot of things to consider besides just whether or not your baby is a boy or a girl.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Think about safety first. Some nursery themes are cute, but the décor can be a safety concern to your baby. Make sure electrical switches, blind cords and other hazards are out of your baby's reach. Also, check your crib and bedding to make sure they're up to the latest safety standards.
Step2
Create a soothing environment. Bright colors can over stimulate new babies, but pastel colors are calming. Geometric patterns and prints can help keep your baby's attention, fascinating him for quite a while. A pleasant mural on a wall might also be a nice touch. Or you could stencil your favorite poem or verse above the crib.
Step3
Be practical. You need to have functional furniture in the room, like a crib, dresser, bookshelf and changing table. You'll also need space to store toys, because you'll soon find yourself with a lot of them.
Step4
Add a rocking chair in the room. Late night wakings and round the clock feedings will leave you exhausted. Using a chair in the room will teach your baby that he needs to stay in his room at night, and it will give you a place to rest.
Step5
Place a rug in the floor if you have hard floors. This will give your newborn a place to play without you worrying about the hard flooring.
Step6
Consider the long term. Find a theme that your baby won't soon outgrow. Once your chasing your little one around, the last thing you'll have time to do is redecorate. Some cribs can convert into a toddler bed, and then a full size bed. These can be a good option for your child to grow into. And you might want to choose a neutral theme, that way it can be used for future babies.
Step7
Start early and have fun. Instead of waiting until the last minute, start early and cherish every moment you spend on this project. This is a great opportunity for you and your spouse to work together and create that perfect environment for your baby to be.
