Putting on a condom is not difficult and can be learned in seconds. Condoms are the most effective way to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. They only work, though, if the condom is used correctly. Learn how to put on a condom the right way to stay safer and more protected while having sex.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wait until the penis is partially or fully erect before attempting to put on a condom. Carefully open the condom wrapper without tearing the condom. Condoms are easily torn or punctured by fingernails, jewelry or other sharp objects.

  2. Step 2

Make sure the roll is on the outside of the condom. Squeeze the tip of the condom with your fingertips to remove trapped air from the reservoir while using the other hand to roll the condom down over the penis.

  3. Step 3

Roll the condom down to the base of the penis. Continue pinching the tip of the condom to keep air from getting trapped inside.

  4. Step 4

Ensure that the condom stays in place during sex. If it unrolls or comes off during sex, put on a new condom.

  5. Step 5

Withdraw the penis while it is still erect, holding the condom in place while doing so. Remove the condom by grabbing the base of the penis and carefully pulling the condom off. Dispose of the condom by wrapping it in tissue and placing it in a trash can.

Tips & Warnings
  • Condoms are very effective for preventing sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy, but only if they are used correctly. Follow all instructions closely.
  • Never reuse a condom. If the condom comes off or unrolls, get a new condom and dispose of the used one.
