Hawaii is often called the top honeymoon destination in the world. A honeymoon in Hawaii means adventure, relaxation and fun in one of the most beautiful and romantic spots in the world. Each island has its own special blend of spectacular scenery, colorful history and a range of activities and amenities.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Do your homework. Hawaii is as diverse as it is beautiful and you have myriad choices for your Hawaiian honeymoon. Whether you explore one island or island hop, you have a range of options for lodging and dining, entertainment and activities. You can find adventure, fun, relaxation and romance on all of the islands. Talk to others who have visited Hawaii, read guidebooks and surf the web to generate ideas.
Step2
Talk with your fiancée or fiancé and decide which island or islands to visit. Oahu is the most populated island, where the city of Honolulu is located, as are world-famous Waikiki Beach and Pearl Harbor. Drive the spectacular Road to Hana on the island of Maui, visit the historic town of Lahaina and snorkel near Black Rock on Kaanapali Beach. The "Garden Isle" of Kauai is a lush tropical paradise where you can visit the National Tropical Botanical Garden, see the settings of many Hollywood films and luxuriate beside beautiful Hanalei Bay. On the Big Island, hike in Volcanoes National Park, go whale watching and take helicopter tours to see waterfalls and volcanoes.
Step3
Set a budget. While Hawaii has a reputation for being expensive, it is definitely possible to plan a wonderful honeymoon trip that is also wallet-conscious trip. Be aware that costs can vary by island, location on an island and the time of year.
Step4
Make travel arrangements. You can cruise to Hawaii or fly. Many airlines offer round-trip flights from various cities on the mainland. There are also many flights between the islands available each day. If you decide to spend your honeymoon on one island, consider at least a day trip to one of the other major islands. From Maui you can take a boat to Lanai or Molokai or a snorkel trip to Molokini crater.
Step5
Find lodging. Hawaii has many choices for resorts, hotels, bed-and-breakfasts and condos. Mention to the front desk that you are on your honeymoon, since this often gets you an upgrade, a bottle of champagne or another perk.
Step6
Make reservations for any luaus, shows or dinner cruises well in advance. Honolulu and Waikiki on Oahu offer the most night life, but you can find amazing luaus on each of the major islands. These can fill up fast, especially during high season. However, remember that you will be tired after your wedding and the trip to Hawaii, so don't overbook yourselves on your honeymoon. Take advantage of all the activities and entertainment that Hawaii offers, but also allow time to just lie on the beach and enjoy beautiful island sunsets together.
Step7
Take a fun and informative history lesson. See sugar plantations and the Kamokila Hawaiian Village on Kauai. Walk the streets of the old seaport of Lahaina on Maui and visit the sacred site of Piilanihale Heiau. On Oahu, visit Iolani Palace and the missionary village in Honolulu as well as Pearl Harbor and the Polynesian Cultural Center. On the Big Island, visit a "heiau," traditional Hawaiian religious sites and see the monuments to King Kamehameha and Captain James Cook and walk through Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park.
Step8
Get into or on the water. Hotels and vendors on each of the major islands can help if you want to rent or buy surfboards, boogie boards and snorkel gear. Many of the major swimming beaches offer surfing and boogie board lessons, as well as parasailing, scuba, snuba, whale watches and visits to "turtle towns."
