Yoga classes enrich the body, soul and mind. The combination of physically strengthening movements with meditation creates a beneficial experience. Before you do any individual, at-home yoga practice, find a yoga class. Learn the correct postures and movements from a professional, experienced instructor. Use the following instructions to join and yoga class.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Call the yoga studio or gym and find out equipment for the class. Many studios sell or loan out yoga mats, blankets, bricks, bands and other accessories for your use during class.

  2. Step 2

Arrive a few minutes prior to the class to scope out a good spot on the floor and get set up. Leave your shoes outside the room, and turn your cell phone off. Wear comfortable, stretchy and fitted clothing. Loose garments get in the way.

  3. Step 3

Opt for a position off to the side but close to the front, so that you are out of the way but can also see the instructor.

  4. Step 4

Take a moment before class to introduce yourself to the instructor, describe your yoga experience, and any aches or pains you have.

  5. Step 5

Relax, the instructor helps you find the best postures for your body. Enjoy the feelings of being strong, centered, meditative and relaxed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many people go to health club yoga classes, which require membership dues and setup fees. Other smaller yoga studios charge per class or sell series of classes.
  • Beginner students rarely master all of the postures or series at their first few classes. Stick with it.
  • Search for classes using an online class finder tool. See Resources for websites. Check with friends, coworkers, and other acquaintances for studio or instructor recommendations.
