The Milwaukee Art Museum, located along the shores of Lake Michigan has a long history. The galleries are housed in a mid-20th century modern building, designed by the Finnish architect, Eero Saarinen (of St. Louis Arch fame). Adjacent to that facility is a new, wing-shaped building, the Quadracci Pavilion. View the wide array of art works at the Milwaukee Art Museum after reading the following steps.

Step1
Purchase tickets. Tickets to the Milwaukee Art Museum are available solely at the museum's ticket desk. Discounts are given to seniors and students, and children 12 and younger are admitted free with an adult. Residents of Milwaukee County are admitted free on Wednesdays with proof of residency. The museum is open every day, except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Explore the Permanent Collection. The Milwaukee Museum of Art is home to more than 20 thaousand works. Among the highlights of the collection are one of the country's largest German Expression collections, a reflection of Milwaukee's German heritage; the folk and Haitian art displays; the collection of American decorative art and the large number of canvases by Georgia O'Keeffe.

See the Quadracci Pavilion. The wing-shaped Quadracci Pavilion, opened in 2001, and was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, his first commission in the United States. The singular building, named "Best Design of 2001" by "Time Magazine," features a 90-foot sunscreen that can be opened and closed according to the weather and time of day, giving the illusion of a "moving" structure. The Pavilion is used for special events and temporary exhibits.
Step4
Spend the night in Milwaukee. Explore the Milwaukee Art Museum for the whole weekend by staying overnight at one of the city's many downtown hotels. Try the historic Pfister on E. Wisconsin or the Residence Inn, housed in a former Marshall Fields store building on Plankinton. Both are within walking distance of the museum.
