How to Use a Spring Bar Tool

A spring bar tool is a valuable tool for any watch maker or anyone who works with watches. The tool is useful when removing any kind of strap. Read this eHow to learn more.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Use the thin end of the spring bar tool to push the clasp spring bar. Open the clasp, and insert the spring bar tool in the clasp hole on the side of the clasp. Press gently until the spring compresses and can be removed.

  2. Step 2

    Remove the end link spring bar by inserting the spring bar tool between the watch shoulder and the outside of the bracelet.

  3. Step 3

    Hold the watch firmly with one hand while you push the spring of the end link with the spring bar tool toward the center of the bracelet.

  4. Step 4

    Insert the spring bar tool between the watch's shoulders and the end of the leather strap. Hook the spring bar with the shoulders of the spring bar tool, and push the spring toward the middle of the strap to remove the strap.

  5. Step 5

    Squeeze a rubber watch strap with your fingers, then insert the spring bar tool between the shoulders of the watch and the rubber watch band. Catch the end of the spring bar with the shoulders of the spring bar tool, push the spring toward the middle of the strap, and slip the spring bar out.

  • The tool is sharp, so be careful. Work deliberately and slowly.
