How to Repair a Longbow
Even the casual archer should know a few things about how to repair damage to a longbow. Unlike compound bows which rely on complicated mechanics, a longbow is the simplest bow design and making a basic repair is possible with a few common steps.

1
Inspect the bow string to make sure the threads have not come loose. If they have you may be able to wind the threads back into place and apply a match or cigarette lighter to the string, melting the threads back into place.
-
2
Examine the limbs closely before and after every use so that you can detect signs of cracking or splitting as soon as they occur. If you do see early signs of such damage, apply wood epoxy to the affected area and allow time to dry.

3
Reinspect the bow after you have attempted to make repairs to see if the bond appears strong. Be cautious when you first use a longbow that has been recently repaired.
-
4
Go immediately to an archery repair professional if your longbow shows signs of advanced damage or if your own repairs fail to work. If you allow the little things to build up over time you will soon have a bow not worth shooting.

Tips & Warnings
Ensure that you have strung your longbow properly. Placing too much stress on the limbs of the bow can cause serious damage that could end the bow's usability.
Remember to unstring your longbow once you are done using it. Leaving a longbow strung while stowed is a sure way to cause long-term and irreversible damage.
