Coyote calls are the best thing to use for attracting coyotes whether you are hunting them with a gun or with a camera. If you wish to purchase a coyote call, but are unsure of how to go about it, the following steps will help you.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Decide What Kind of Coyote Call You Want

  1. Step 1

Consider distress coyote calls, which are mouth blown and designed to sound like an animal in distress, tend to work the best when trying to attract coyotes. You can use a deer distress call or a cottontail rabbit distress call (this one seems to be more successful). Mouth blown distress calls are great because they are inexpensive, easy to carry and require the least skill in using.

  2. Step 2

Listen to howling coyote calls, which are also mouth blown and designed to sound like a coyote's howl. The howl of the coyote is different by sex and age, so you can use a male, female or pup call to get the desired result with your coyote call.

  3. Step 3

Look at electric coyote calls. They are heavier to carry, more expensive and harder to maintain because they require batteries to use. However they do require less effort to use, as you are just playing the call and not making it. Alternatively, you can just play a cassette of coyote calls on a portable tape player instead of purchasing an expensive electric call.

  4. Purchase Your Coyote Call

  5. Step 1

Visit your local sporting goods store to purchase a coyote call. You can even purchase coyote kits that will give you instructions on how to use the call.

  6. Step 2

Do a search online to find an Internet store that specializes in outdoor equipment and sporting goods to purchase your coyote call. Shop around for the best price on what you are looking for.

  7. Step 3

Purchase your coyote call used or new through online auctions and you may end up getting a better price. Be careful with shipping charges, as those costs can add up to make your item more expensive.
