How to Make an Origami Wallet

The next time you find yourself without a wallet but need somewhere to stick your money, just find a piece of paper and you can make yourself an origami wallet. You can also buy all sorts of decorative paper and make yourself a wallet for every outfit and purse combination. Read on to learn more.

Things You'll Need:

  • One piece of 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper

    Getting Started

  1. Step 1

    Place one rectangular piece of paper sideways on a flat surface.

  2. Step 2

    Valley fold about half an inch of the top and bottom edges of the paper over. Valley fold means to fold part of the paper toward you and then unfold it, making a crease that looks like a river bottom.Then valley fold the paper in half from top to bottom. Press it flat and then unfold it.

  3. Step 3

    Take the bottom edge of the paper up to meet the middle fold-line and valley fold it. Press it flat and then unfold it.

  4. Step 4

    Use a valley fold and fold the bottom left-hand corner over to meet the adjacent fold-line.

  5. Step 5

    Grasp the bottom edge of the paper, bring it up to meet the middle fold-line and valley fold it.

  6. Step 6

    Employ a valley fold by folding the top edge of the paper down toward the middle fold-line.

  7. Finishing Up

  8. Step 1

    Mountain fold the left hand side. Mountain fold means to fold part of the origami paper away from you, crease it and then unfold it. The unfolded crease will look like a mountain.

  9. Step 2

    Turn the paper over and valley fold it in half from side to side. Press it flat and then unfold it.

  10. Step 3

    Valley fold about half an inch at the top right-hand corner down on a slant.

  11. Step 4

    Apply a valley fold by folding the paper in half from right to left, at the same time.

  12. Step 5

    Insert the right hand side of the wallet deep into the left-hand layers of the paper.

  13. Step 6

    Valley fold the bottom rectangle of your paper up, press it down and then unfold it.

  14. Step 7

    Take the top edge and valley fold it down. The thicker you make the fold, the smaller the spine of the wallet will be. Press the paper down and then unfold it.

  15. Step 8

    Use the fold lines you made in steps 12 and 13 and shape the wallet's spine. Insert the bottom left-hand corner underneath the opposite sloping side.
