Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Optimize FiOs speed through Verizon's website. This is for those who already have FiOs, but the Internet-download time is sluggish. Go to Verizon troubleshooting and choose "troubleshooting your connection." Scroll down and click on "slow connection." Select "optimize you FiOs speed." Follow the directions.
Step2
Clean up your computer. Do a virus scan and remove any viruses. Trash old cookies. Free up space on your hard drive. Defragment your computer. After you have done all of these things, restart your computer and open the Internet. Check your FiOs speed and repeat Step 2 if needed.
Step3
Contact the FiOs server--Verizon for instance--and get a repair-person to come out and fix the problem. Many times you can just call them and follow their step by step instructions to alleviate the barrier that is keeping the FiOs speed down. If all else fails, you may need to move on to Step 4.
Step4
Upgrade your FiOs system. There are now different FiOs packages to choose from. Verizon offers packages that offer speeds ranging from 5 Mbps/2 Mbps to 15 Mbps/2 Mbps to 30 Mbps/5 Mbps. The packages range in price from $40 to $140 depending on the speed you choose. Call Verizon at 1-888-GET-FiOs or by ordering online at Verizon's website.
