Step1
Find a veterinary program that's right for you. The 1980s brought on a rush of interest in the field of veterinary dentistry, and many veterinary schools followed suit by offering courses in the subject. Since then it's become a relatively normal specialty.
Step2
Look for a veterinary office or animal hospital that needs a veterinary dentist. Many neighborhood veterinarians offer dental services for dogs and cats, and larger institutions like veterinary schools and teaching hospitals employ veterinary dentists.
Step3
Keep up to date on dental problems and effective treatments. Like human dentistry, new technologies are always evolving in veterinary dentistry. If you become familiar with the range of treatments available, you can run a successful practice.
Step4
Educate the public on how to keep their pets safe. Veterinary dentists are in a unique position to educate the community because many pet owners don't realize that a constant diet of pet food can damage a pet's teeth. Consider giving seminars or classes in your neighborhood or at a local veterinary office.
