Instructions

    • 1

Remove the plastic lid from the top of the coffee can.

    • 2

Measure the height and circumference of the coffee can with a tape measure. Use the measurements to cut out a piece of construction paper such that the length is equal to the circumference of the can and the height is equal to the height of the can.

    • 3

Draw shapes on your fabric. Use cookie cutters as stencils to create your shapes. Cut the shapes out with scissors.

    • 4

Decorate one side of your construction paper by gluing the shapes down. Use markers for additional decoration.

    • 5

Place glue on the undecorated side of the construction paper and then wrap it around the coffee can, pressing it against the can as you go.

    • 6

Wad up some extra fabric around the tip of your dowel. Wrap a large piece of fabric around it and secure the large piece to the tip of the dowel with string or a rubber band. Repeat this process with your other dowel. These are the sticks for your drum.

    • 7

Place the lid back on top of your can and use it as the top of the drum. Alternatively, turn the can over and drum on the aluminum bottom for a different sound.
