Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Find a daycare provider class in your area through a community college or continuing education program. Learn about any support for daycare providers through local organizations and schools or any associations that exist to allow collaboration and cooperation between daycare providers in your area.
Step2
Research licensing and educational certifications you must have to run a day care in your state. There is considerable state legislation governing daycares, especially those in your home, so you need to know what you are getting into before you even start writing the business plan.
Step3
Use a template. There are many companies out there that have developed software to use specifically for building a business plan, while they cover all of the basic areas of a business plan, they also offer templates for your specific business. Plan Magic is one of the those companies offering software at around $200 for daycare business plans.
Step4
Contact a business plan writer or writing firm. There are many business professionals who are experienced in business start up and work specifically with entrepreneurs to develop a successful business plan for their business.
Step5
Read up. There are many books on how to write business plans that will take you through the process step-by-step. The problem with this method is that you do not get specific details for writing a daycare business plan and you need to make sure to use a current book, as business plans are often changing shape.
Step6
Attend a small business workshop. There are many business schools, workshop companies or community colleges that offer classes and workshops to the public. Take advantage of one of these, such as the online workshop offered by the Small Business Administration.
