Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice focusing on how to live in harmony with your environment. While Feng Shui is most often applied in the home, the principles should also be followed in the yard and garden. In Feng Shui, the home represents the yang and the garden represents the yin. Therefore, when practicing Feng Shui, you must establish balance between the home and garden.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Allow paths in your garden to flow freely following the natural curves of the landscape. Straight paths encourage energy to flow too quickly. If you have a straight path, then allow some plants to grow on the path to slow the movement of energy.

  2. Step 2

Surround your property with curved fences or stone walls instead of straight fences.

  3. Step 3

Line the back of your garden with vegetation. Plant trees or large shrubs to provide protection and privacy. Use trees that have rounded leaves.

  4. Step 4

Balance your garden by planting vegetation that varies in size. Plant trees or large bushes on each side of your door for protection.

  5. Step 5

Enhance yin, or feminine energy, by installing water features in your yard.

  6. Step 6

Brighten the darker areas of the garden by installing solar lights along paths or along the edge of gardens. This also enhances the yang, or masculine energy, in the yard.

  7. Step 7

Create relaxing living spaces in your garden. These spaces should allow friends and family to gather.
