Feng Shui is a 4,000-year-old form of geomancy developed by the Chinese. In ancient China, Feng Shui was used to guide people towards attainment of good health, wealth and power. Today, Feng Shui principles are used by practitioners to help people live in harmony with nature rather than against nature. By applying some Feng Shui principles to your home, you'll optimize the flow of energy and minimize stagnation.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Separate pieces of furniture by 3 feet. Leaving space between pieces of furniture allows continuous flow of energy.

  2. Step 2

Put beds in front of a walls so you have a strong support behind you. Elevate all beds, including children's beds, off the ground. Energy cannot flow freely under a bed that isn't elevated.

  3. Step 3

Arrange furniture so that your back never faces a door. You should see your bedroom door from your bed. Your office door should be directly visible from your desk.

  4. Step 4

Limit the use of accessories as they crowd space and reduce the flow of energy. Place pictures or paintings at eye level over a heavier piece of furniture.

  5. Step 5

Put mirrors at the end of hallways to minimize the feeling of a "dead end." Avoid placing mirrors directly across from your bed.

  6. Step 6

Open your windows for at least 20 minutes daily to allow energy to flow from outside into your home.

  7. Step 7

Eliminate clutter from your home. Place magazines in covered containers. File paperwork in filing cabinets. Use twist ties and surge protectors to consolidate cords and cables.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't put a television in your bedroom.
  • Don't use bunk beds in children's rooms.
  • Don't leave toilet lids open.
