Expect color variations. One of the most unique traits of the Siberian husky breed is the tendency for dogs to have eyes that are two different colors. While many huskies have eyes that are startlingly pale blue, many others have eyes that are blue and brown or blue and green. This variation is not a sign of ill health; in fact, it is a very desirable trait in the breed.

Inspect the dog's tail. The Siberian husky's tail curls upward into a tightly coiled spiral in a very distinct shape. When examining husky puppies, make sure you look at their tails and look for that distinct curl. A puppy whose tail is slack or does not curl tightly might be malnourished or in ill health and must be inspected further.

Request pedigree papers. Some Siberian husky breeders try to keep the breed closely tied to their wolf cousins by breeding them with wolves or wolf hybrid dogs. I own a wolf hybrid (30% wolf) and they are great dogs. They have all the same traits as huskies but calmer. My husky is a little timid around new people (especially in closed places) but she is a great dog! Most people don't even know she has wolf in her and I honestly don't tell a lot of people because they would just freak out. But I agree they aren't for everyone. Talk to the breeder before getting one!
