How to Houseboat on Lake Mohave

Lake Mohave (sometimes spelled Lake Mojave) is a 65-mile-long lake located within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. This elongated reservoir formed when the Davis Dam was built. Lake Mohave offers 237 miles of shoreline to explore by houseboat. Lake Mohave has two marinas that rent houseboats.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Contact Lake Mohave Resort, also known as Katherine Landing, at (800) 752-9669. This marina is located near Laughlin, Nevada. They rent houseboats ranging from 43 feet that sleep six people to 56 feet long that sleep a group of 13.

  2. Step 2

    Check into houseboat rental availability at Cottonwood Cove, located on the Nevada side. This marina is conveniently located one hour or less from both Laughlin and Las Vegas. Call (800) 255-5561 for reservation information on 50- to 70-foot houseboats.

  3. Step 3

    Steer your houseboat around Lake Mohave and admire the sheer cliffs of multicolored rocks. Pull into a sandy beach or secluded cove at night.

  4. Step 4

    Swim, boat and enjoy other water activities, especially in the summer when the water temperatures reach into the 80s. Scuba diving and snorkeling are popular in the clear lake water.

  5. Step 5

    Fish for rainbow trout, striped bass, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish.

  6. Step 6

    Keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife including threatened and endangered species. Coyotes, bobcats, kit foxes and the peregrine falcon are just a few examples of desert wildlife at Lake Mohave.

  7. Step 7

    Head toward the 200-foot-high Davis Dam, constructed of earth and rock. Stop and take a self-guided tour of the dam and the power plant.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have a valid fishing license with you before fishing in Lake Mohave. If your license is for Arizona, and you plan to fish on Lake Mohave or the shoreline of Nevada, then you must have a "use stamp" from Nevada. If your license is for Nevada, have a "use stamp" from Arizona.
