How to Set Up an Internet Radio Station

Radio isn't what it used to be. They play all of the same songs by all of the same artists. If you ever thought you could do a better job running a radio station you should try setting up one of your own. With your computer, the Internet and inexpensive software you can be running your own Internet radio station in no time.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install Pirate Radio if you want the ease of not having to worry about buying and setting up a server or devoting your computer to being a server for your radio station.

    • 2

Get a server if you want more control of your radio station. You can either get an outside server provider that you will have to pay for or run the server from your own computer.

    • 3

Find a server provider if you decide to use an outside server. Serverprovider.com is a possible option for server hosting.

    • 4

Install SHOUTcast DNAS server, which you can get from shoutcast.com, if you're going to set up your own server.

    • 5

Configure your network settings based on whether you're using a dial-up service or hi-speed or broadband service. Broadband service would be better because it would make streaming your music much easier.

    • 6

Make sure the server plug-in is connected to Winmap. Once that is done your server is up and ready to work and you're ready to start uploading MP3 files, streaming your music across the Internet. You now officially run an Internet radio station.
