Self-publishers have long looked for an affordable way to publish their books. Traditional offset printing can be expensive for publishing small quantities. The popularity of digital printing and the Internet have made self-publishing more affordable for the general public. To publish a book at Lulu.com, follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Join Lulu.com. To begin the publishing process, you must register. Click the "Sign Up" link located at the top of the page. Go to the "Join Lulu" page. Click the "First Time Visitor" button and read over the appropriate information. Complete all new user account information.

  2. Step 2

Start the project. Click the "Start a New Project" button. Select the type of project to be created. Follow the step-by-step instructions to determine the settings for the page size, binding method and color of interior pages.

  3. Step 3

Send the content. Follow the directions for uploading the files to use for the interior of the book. A print ready file will be generated, which may be downloaded by the author for revision and proofing.

  4. Step 4

Create the cover. A cover file may be uploaded, or the cover may be generated from Lulu.com files. Settings will be available for the title and author text format.

  5. Step 5

Define cover elements. Enter an ISBN, copyright and licensing information as well as price if the book will be offered for sale.

  6. Step 6

Review the entire project. Make any changes necessary. The new book will now published.

on 8/15/2008 Just one thing, you dont need to insert an ISBN unless you want distribution ( retail sales). You can sell books on the Lulu marketplace without an ISBN though :)
