Sometimes, no matter how hard you rack your brain, it's difficult to come up with a new, unique dessert. You could dig through your recipes, but then you realize that you've made that same old chocolate cake way too often. Why not treat your guests to something really special and make them a pecan tart.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pastry pie dough
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 tbsp. dark rum
  • 1/2 stick of softened, unsalted butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. of salt
  • 2 cups of pecan halves
  • Saucepan
  • Egg beater
  1. Step 1

Take a saucepan and add 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2/3 cup of corn syrup, 2 tbsp. of dark rum and half a stick of softened butter.

  2. Step 2

Bring this mixture to a boil. Watch carefully so it does not boil over the side of the pan.

  3. Step 3

Set it aside until it's lukewarm once you've brought it to a boil.

  4. Step 4

Beat three eggs into this mixture. Make sure you beat them one at a time.

  5. Step 5

Add the vanilla extract, salt and pecan halves to the mixture.

  6. Step 6

Put the mixture into the pie or tart shell.

  7. Step 7

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and cook the pecan tart for 50 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Once the pecan tart has finished cooking and cooling, cover it with whipped cream or serve it with ice cream.
  • Garnish the tart with half a cup of pecans. Rinse them in a drainer and then shave thin slices onto the tart.
