Instructions

    • 1

Place the beans in a strainer. Wash them thoroughly and drain the water.

    • 2

Put the beans in a large pot and add 7 cups of water.

    • 3

Let the beans stand covered overnight.

    • 4

Bring the beans to a simmer the next day.

    • 5

Make sure the cover is on the pot very tightly and let the beans simmer until they're tender. This should take about 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

    • 6

Mix in the sugar, vinegar, syrup, salt and nutmeg. Then mix together your cornstarch with 1 tbsp. of cold water. Mix this in with the beans.

    • 7

Simmer the beans for another 15 minutes uncovered. The beans are done once they have thickened. You may need to add a bit more cornstarch if the beans aren't thick enough.

    • 8

Serve the Swedish Bruna Bonor hot. This should make about 8 to 12 servings.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also add a cinnamon stick for extra flavor while the Bruna Bonor is cooking. Remove the cinnamon stick before serving.
