Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Visit the Cofre de Perote National Park in the Nauticampatepetl. The extinct volcano, also called Cofre de Perote, is one of Mexico's highest peaks. Once you've climbed the volcano, set up camp and enjoy all that the park has to offer.
Step2
Drive north to Pueblo and hike the inactive volcano, Cuexcomate, the smallest volcano on earth. It stands a mere 43 feet high.
Step3
Travel southeast of Mexico City to Iztaccihuatl (also spelled Ixtaccihuatl) the third highest peak in Mexico.
Step4
Go to the town of Michoacan, home of El Jorullo, a volcano with four cinder cones. Its last eruption was in 1958.
Step5
Tour the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve, operated by the Mexican Federal Government. Located in the starkly beautiful Sonoran Desert of Northwest Mexico, Pinacate can be seen from outer space.
Step6
Travel to Taluca, located in central Mexico. Check out the two crater lakes in the Nevado de Toluca volcano. Visitors can also take advantage of nearby mountain biking trails and hiking paths.
Step7
Drive northwest to the Baja California peninsula. View the three volcanoes, El Viejo, El Azufre and El Virgen. The last eruption here was more than 6,000 years ago.
