With its wonderful tasting homemade biscuits and muffins and other homestyle foods, it seems tough to eat healthy at restaurants like Perkins. However, it's not impossible if you know what to look for and what to order. Here are a few tips on how to eat healthy at Perkins.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Watch what you drink. Opt for water, coffee, vegetable juice or fruit juice. The hot chocolate is deliciously sweet but loaded with sugar. Soda, although a thirst quencher, is also loaded with sugar and empty calories. If you're watching your weight, make each calorie count.

  2. Step 2

Create your own breakfast. Go for the egg substitutes and create your won omelet with ingredients such as tomatoes, onion, celery and green peppers. Add a side of fresh fruit to that as well. You'll not only be full, but you'll feel good about what you ate.

  3. Step 3

Think broiled. Instead of ordering fried foods that are loaded with extra fat and unwanted calories, opt for the broiled meals such as broiled chicken.

  4. Step 4

Order a salad. Perkins lunch and dinner menus offer a variety of fresh healthy salads for the health conscious. Instead of a burger, order a salad.

  5. Step 5

Choose a healthy side order. On their menu, Perkins has a variety of sides. Rather than going for French fries, choose the steamed broccoli or cole slaw.

  6. Step 6

Share your dessert. If you've managed to eat a healthy meal while at Perkins, you've earned the pleasure of tasting one of their delicious desserts. However, don't undo your hard work. Share your dessert with as many people at the table as you can. All you really need is a fork full or two to enjoy the flavor. Give the rest away.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's easier to eat healthy at Perkins if you're dining with health conscious friends or family. It's very tempting when you watch your friend eat fried foods loaded with creams and extra calories while you're eating a salad. Choose your dining partners carefully.
