1
Doodle his dreams and ideas. Have him doodle and brainstorm ideas for business adventures, realistic or not. The goal is to use the plan of interest to teach the necessary skills.
-
2
Set it up. Create the components of how to set up her business plan and ideas. Include things like the product idea, name, target audience, advertising and cost of product. This will help organize her thoughts and give you an outline to help teach the financial aspects later.
-
-
3
Come up with a business name and introduce corporate information. This is a great time to explain and teach him about partnerships and corporation. Most businesses are not run by a singular person. Talk about funding and investments like stocks during this stage, too.
-
4
Advertise and market the product and company. Once she knows what products are being offered and the company structure, lead into the aspects of advertising and marketing. Have her create different types of advertising to market the product and find different ways to be effective.
-
5
Create promotional and business needs ideas. Have him think about the internal workings of the business from business cards, copy machines and cash registers. Have him visually draw the store and what items will need to be in it.
-
6
Teach the monetary side of business. Now that there is a concrete plan with examples, teach her how much things will cost and about additional expenses, such as employees, taxes and insurance. This is where the bulk of the teaching must be done. Incorporating lessons in math, accounting, management and business laws and ethics fall into the final segment of this plan.

Our 9- year old daughter started her own coffee business using a curriculum called FatBrain Coffee: Children's Business Curriculum. It has EASY and Quick lessons to get started in business and also provide a great product, coffee, to sell. (And it is a great coffee!) Our daughter could be exposed to the nuts and bolts of how a business runs, without coming up with a business idea of her own. She has learned how to complete an income statement, give a sales presentation and how to be socially responsible by giving back. Great Program! -
