The Miniature Bull Terrier goes by various names, including the English Bull Terrier and the Standard Bull Terrier. They have coats made up of very short, thick hair which comes in a variety of colors, including white, black, brindle, red, fawn or a mixture of these colors. Their coats need a full grooming every 8 to 12 weeks.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rubber glove
  • Scissors
  • Rubber brush
  • Natural bristle brush
  1. Step 1

Run a rubber glove over the coat to get rid of shed hair and give the coat a healthy, shiny look.

  2. Step 2

Use scissors to trim the whiskers if desired. This is done purely by choice. There is no health reason or breed standard rule about it.

  3. Step 3

Bathe the dog when necessary. Use a rubber brush before and during the bath to remove excess and shed hair from the coat.

  4. Step 4

Brush with a natural bristle brush while drying the dog for a nice, finished look. This type of brush should clean the coat and get rid of any remaining shed hair.

Tips & Warnings
  • This breed has a life expectancy of about 10 to 12 years.
  • This breed was created in 1830 to be an agile and vicious fighter. They are a mixture of Bulldog, Old English Terrier and a bit of Spanish Pointer blood. The plans to create the ultimate fighting dog weren't completely successful, and these days the Miniature Bull Terrier is rather mellow in disposition.
  • Some members of this breed are afflicted with a zinc deficiency that can be fatal. Other genetic concerns are deafness and slipped patella (which is a dislocation of the kneecaps).
  • Non-hereditary concerns include obsessive compulsive behavior, sensitivity to fleas and parasites, an overabundance of testosterone in males, weight gain, allergies and bad knees.
