How to Organize a Photo Album

Photographs hold our most precious and favorite memories. Unfortunately, many of those great memories get lost in the shuffle, or never even make it out of the store packaging they came home in or out of the camera, for that matter. Here is an easy way to organize your photos into an album that will allow you to see and share your memories for years to come.

1. Decide how you want the album designed. Some people like all of the pictures in one book, while others like to make one for each member of the family or of special holidays and events.
2. Sort your photos. You can do this by year, season or month. Most people like the photographs in chronological order.
3. Spread them out. Take one pile at a time and look through them. Choose the best pictures. Make one stack for album pictures and another pile for photos to store. Weed out the pictures that are blurry or have obstacles in the way and throw them away.
4. Choose an album to showcase your photographs. The best albums have individual pockets that hold each picture. Albums with lift-and-stick pages don't always preserve your pictures as long as you'd like.
5. Make any notes on the backs of your photos. Dates, names, places, holidays, or events are common items to write on the back so you don't forget later on.
6. Insert the photos in your album according to the order you chose in step three. Place all extra photos in a photo box or the trash.

Tips & Warnings

• Acid-free photo albums will preserve your pictures longer than other options.
• This task can seem too big to tackle if you have years of pictures to organize. Take it one stack at a time. The album does not have to be done all in one day.
