1
Choose the trap location. The trap should be placed where the rabbit would normally travel. Look for a trail and rabbit droppings to discover where rabbits can be found.
-
2
Hide your scent. Prepare the trap away from the rabbit trail, and cover up your human scent with campfire smoke. Wear gloves when handling trap materials.

3
Prepare the snare. The snare should be made of non-ferrous wire. Test the snare to make sure that it's strong enough to hold. One end of the snare will have a running eye where you will thread the wire through to form a noose.
-
4
Attach a strong piece of string, such as a shoelace, to the snare.
-
5
Cut the stake out of a medium branch and sharpen one end with a knife. Cut a notch all the way around the opposite end of the stake near the top so the string will not slip.
-
6
Use the back of an ax to hammer the stake firmly into the ground next to where you want to place the snare. Attach the string on your snare to the notched portion of the stake.
-
7
Set the snare. The snare should be as wide as your fist, and about three fingers off the ground to allow the head of your catch to fit through the hole.
-
8
Secure the snare. Use your ax to split a small twig down the middle at one end. Push the snare into the split, and push the other end of the twig into the ground next to the stake. Carefully cover the snare with brush to camouflage it.
