How to Publicize a Fundraiser
Planning a fund raising event is a great way to make money for your organization. You might be tempted to skimp on the advertising if your organization is short on funds, but publicity increases your chances for success. Getting the word out will take some dedication; however, it's a great way to get in touch with the community and have some fun.

Print up fliers or posters and paper the town.. A bill that catches your eye is a great way to get people interested in your event. Post fliers on telephone poles and bulletin boards in your neighborhood. Ask local shopkeepers if you can place a poster in their storefront window, and let them know the publicity is for a good cause. They may even agree to keep fliers near the cash register.

Post information on your homepage. If your organization has a website, information about your fundraiser should be the first thing people see when they visit. Also, ask sponsors to link to your information on their websites.

Make t-shirts. If you have enough money, have some shirts printed advertising the event. Give them to people you know to wear before the event. If you have shirts left over, you can sell them at the fundraiser.

Write a press release. A simple article explaining your event and why you are raising funds will go a long way. Send it to local newspapers and magazines, especially the free ones. People use these sources to find out what is going on in their area.

Email everybody you know. If your organization has an email list, send a newsletter advertising your event. Also, include a blurb about your fundraiser in the signature of every email you write, whether it is personal or professional.

Spread the word. Word-of-mouth publicity is free, and very convincing. Mention it in conversations with friends and acquaintences. Surely, it will come up in their chats with others.

Target the crowd. If you are part of any sort of gathering, ask if you can say a few words about your organization and your fundraiser. A speech will reach a large audience at once, and will most likely get people talking about your event.
