Originating in Spain and developed primarily in England, Cocker Spaniels were originally named because of their popularity as a working gun dog that hunt woodcock in England. The American Cocker Spaniel first originated in the United Kingdom and was brought to Canada and the United States in the late 1800's. Cocker Spaniels are sporting dogs and the smallest in their group. Spaniels are enjoyed as household pets, companions and show dogs.

    The Cocker Spaniel has long hanging ears; a rounded head; and a silky, feathered, medium-length coat.
