A simple way to save money and help the environment is to make your own shower gel. It leaves your skin feeling smooth, soft and refreshed. You can use different essential oils to make scented shower gels for gifts. Make a batch of shower gel using the recipient's favorite scent, pour it into a pretty bottle and you have a personalized homemade gift.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ½ cup unscented shampoo
  • 1/4 - 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 15 drops essential or fragrance oil
  • food color (optional)
  • coarse salt (optional)
  1. Step 1

Blend the shampoo and water together until you have the consistency that you like.

Add the salt and essential oil to the mixture and blend. You can use any scent that you like such as strawberry, raspberry, kiwi, vanilla, coconut, ylang ylang or lavender.

  3. Step 3

Personalize bottles of shower gel as gifts by decorating the bottles with paints, markers or beads.

  4. Step 4

Pour the shower gel into a bottle or jar.

  5. Step 5

Use a small dab of shower gel on your hand, washcloth or sponge and use in place of soap.

  6. Step 6

Cover your shower gel to keep it clean until you are ready to use it again.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try using herbal shampoo in place of regular shampoo. Better yet, use a shampoo that you have made yourself.
  • The ingredients can be easily doubled or tripled to make more shower gel for you, family or friends.
  • Don't be afraid to mix scents to make your shower gel, for example strawberry and vanilla produces a very nice fragrance.
  • You can use any scent that you like such as strawberry, raspberry, kiwi, vanilla, coconut, ylang ylang or lavender.
  • Peppermint essential oil will leave your face with a refreshing tingly feeling.
  • If you want your shower gel to also exfoliate your skin, use coarse ground salt in the recipe instead of regular salt. Add one teaspoon at a time until you have the desired consistency.
  • Use unscented baby shampoo if you have sensitive skin.
