Everyone needs a special treat once in a while, even your cat. With so many brands and varieties on the market, it's hard to choose the right cat treat for your cat. Treats can be crunchy or soft and flavored with meat, fish and even catnip. Here are some tips to help you choose the right cat treat for your cat.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a flavor you know your cat loves. Some cats love fish while others don't. If you are buying treats for a special need, your cat should love the flavor first.

  2. Step 2

Vary the texture of the cat treats. If your cat eats a semi-moist cat food, buy him treats that are crunchy. If your cat eats crunchy dry cat food, buy him soft cat treats.

  3. Step 3

Buy special treats formulated for hairballs if your cat has a problem with hairballs. .

  4. Step 4

Give your cat special dental treats. Dental treats help control tartar, plaque and bad breath.

  5. Step 5

Reduce itching and shedding out of season by giving your cat treats for his skin and coat. Special treats are available to nourish your cats skin and coat.

  6. Step 6

Help kitty's digestion with special grass formulated treats. Outdoor cats will occasionally eat grass for digestion, but if your cat is an indoor cat he isn't getting grass.

  7. Step 7

Pep up your depressed, sad or just plain lazy cat with special catnip treats. Both you and your cat will enjoy catnip treats; he'll love them because he feels energized and you'll love them because your kitty will entertain you. Beware of giving too much catnip!

Tips & Warnings
  • Never give your cat treats as a food substitute; treats shouldn't make up more than 10% to 15% of your cats' daily diet.
