How to Take No-Cost College Classes

Obtaining a college degree has become a very expensive proposition. Reports abound of college graduates carrying six-figure college loans, some at ridiculously high rates of interest. It would seem that the degree is hardly worth the stress of having to pay back the debt. But that does not need to be the case. There are ways of taking college classes that do not run into six-figure IOUs. In fact, it's possible to take classes and pay nothing at all.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Decide if you want to attend a traditional college, if you want to obtain a degree, or if you simply want to take college courses.
Step2
Check out the "no tuition programs" that are becoming available if you want to attend a traditional college. Colleges like the University of Virginia and Adams State College in Colorado have such programs.
Step3
Review the descriptions of free online college courses offered for free and for credit. There are courses at various universities around the world that offer free education and then college credit by exam. The Free University Project is one of the more widely used programs.
Step4
Pick just about any area you can imagine if you are not concerned about college credit. Auditing courses or actually sitting in on lectures via video is also possible.
Step5
After you have decided on an area of interest, check out one of the online course databases and explore two or three courses--pick the most interesting one and take it.
Step6
Continue pursuing your interests if the initial experience proves worthwhile.
Step7
Check the schedules of colleges and universities in your area. Most of them offer at least some free educational opportunities.
