Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Internet access
- Microsoft Windows 98 or higher
- Macintosh OS X (v10.1 or higher)
- Latest version of Outlook, Outlook Express or Netscape
- Ethernet connection
- EarthLink service
- EarthLink Total Access
-
Step 1
Proofread the email address if mail you sent is returned as "Mail Delivery Failed." Misspelled words and typographical errors are the most common reasons email is undeliverable.
-
Step 2
Verify that the EarthLink email account to which you are sending is still active. If an account has been closed, email will be returned with "User Unknown."
-
Step 3
Add the EarthLink website address (see Resources below) to your computer's security software's list of accepted or "permitted" sites if you receive the error message, "Due to a problem with your browser, this message could not be sent." Refer to the security software's documentation to make this change. Another option is to disable the software and try sending the EarthLink email again.
-
Step 4
Check the size of the EarthLink email attachment if you are experiencing difficulty receiving mail. Large attachments bog down email programs and cause mail to be undeliverable. You'll find detailed instructions on how to rectify this problem using "Web Mail" on EarthLink's official website.
-
Step 5
Be sure your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is working properly if you are able to receive EarthLink email but are unable to send.
-
Step 6
Make sure you are using the latest version of EarthLink's Total Access software, Outlook, Outlook Express or Netscape. Free downloads are available at the EarthLink website. Earlier versions may not be compatible with EarthLink 5.0.
