Electronic mail is a sign of the times, with most of us probably checking our email boxes more frequently than our mailbox at home. EarthLink is one of many email programs available for Internet users. To use EarthLink email, follow these simple guidelines.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet access
  • Microsoft Windows 98 or higher
  • Macintosh OS X (v10.1 or higher)
  • Latest version of Outlook, Outlook Express or Netscape
  • Ethernet connection
  • EarthLink service
  • EarthLink Total Access
  • Telephone line
  • DSL modem
  • Ethernet cable
  • Network interface card
  • Dual jack adapter
  1. Step 1

Install EarthLink Dial-Up, High Speed, DSL or Wi-Fi on your computer once you have verified that your computer meets the installation requirements (see the related eHow article titled "How to Install EarthLink").

  2. Step 2

Go to the EarthLink website (see Resources below) to download and install the free EarthLink Mailbox so you can begin using EarthLink email. Once you have EarthLink's Total Access installed on your computer, go to the Task Panel and click on the "Email" menu. Follow the instructions on your screen.

  3. Step 3

Use EarthLink email by logging in with your user name and password. If you don't already have an EarthLink account, follow the screen prompts to create one.

  4. Step 4

Create your address book by selecting "Edit Address Book" and inputting the necessary data. You also can import your address book and any email left in a previous email account with another service provider.

  5. Step 5

Send an email by selecting "Toolbox" under the Tools menu and pick "Write New Message." Fill in the "To" and "Subject" fields and then tab to the message field and type your message. Go to the Message menu and hit "Send." Add optional email recipients to "CC" (carbon copy) or "BCC" (blind carbon copy).

  6. Step 6

Add an attachment to your EarthLink email by clicking the "Attach" button (it usually has a paperclip icon). Browse until you find the file you want to send, hit the "Open" button and then click "Send."

  7. Step 7

Respond to an EarthLink email by clicking the "Reply" button. If you are one of a group of email recipients and you want to include the entire group in your response hit "Reply All."
