Step 1
Consider an internship. This can get your foot in the door and give you something to put on your resume. (See the related eHow article titled "How to Find a Textile Job Internship" for all the details.)
-
Step 2
Network with family and friends. Chances are you will find someone who knows a person working in the textile industry if you talk to everyone you know. This may lead to a job prospect.
-
Step 3
Try your college. Some colleges have placement centers, but even if your college doesn't, you can still talk to the instructors in the textile department. A college professor should know the industry and what opportunities are available and where to get help finding a job working with fabric.
-
Step 4
Join a Yahoo! group. This is a great way to connect with other people working in the textile industry and keep tabs on what is happening with fabric trends and job openings.
-
Step 5
Become a member of SMART. SMART is the Secondary Materials and Recycled Textile Association, which is a non-profit association specializing in the textile industry. Connecting with associations like this will keep you on top of what is happening in the industry as well as give you valuable connections to industry insiders to help you land a job.
