The basic definition of telemarketing is selling a product or service via the telephone. Since telemarketing is a sales-based job, many students pursing a career in sales or marketing may opt for a telemarketing internship. If you are looking for a paid or unpaid telemarketing internship, you may find one by following these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research the available options. There are a number of different types of products and services sold through telemarketing. Select a few options which appeal to you and pursue these options further.

  2. Step 2

Learn more about the skills which are required during a telemarketing job internship and tailor your resume to highlight these skills. Most telemarketing jobs require good communication skills: active listening, confident speaking voice, targeted questioning and ability to build rapport with the customer.

  3. Step 3

Investigate the hiring practices of several telemarketing firms to find out whether or not telemarketing firms are currently hiring interns or if they plan to in the future. You should also ask about the application process and the expectations of the potential employers.

  4. Step 4

Consult school career centers, newspapers, job placement websites and websites of telemarketing firms for more information about available telemarketing job internships.

  5. Step 5

Apply for telemarketing job internships for which you are qualified by following the application directions carefully. The application process may involve sending a resume, filling out an application, providing references or a combination of more than one of these processes.

  6. Step 6

Respond to questions by prospective employers quickly and honestly. You may be called for an interview and you may be asked to interview in person or via the telephone. Some telemarketing firms will even give you a short test of your communication and people skills.
