How to Compete With Roller Pigeons
Roller pigeons may have originated in India, and were brought to Germany by traders in the 1870's. In 1875, the breed became a favorite of England, and the Birmingham Rollers became famous. Their fame soon spread across the world, where different varieties of roller pigeons are raised by enthusiasts who compete together in regional and international competitions.

1
Look for a source of roller pigeons. You could find them on the Internet, or listed in the paper. You might even be able to find someone whose job is to catch feral pigeons that roost on public buildings. Among those feral pigeons may be roller pigeons.
-
2
Observe and record the pigeons' ability to roll, as well as their color and sex. Weed out those that do not perform well (these can be sold to others as pets). Those that do not roll for at least thirty feet as high speed should not be considered.

3
Build a flock or kit of roller pigeons from the ones that perform well, and breed them. Keep only those of the offspring that inherit their parent's ability to roll well.
-
4
Establish a training program and stick with it. As you train your pigeons, you will develop a kit that flies in a consistent manner, performing rolls mid-flight. Slowly build up the number in your kit. One man was able to have 60 roller pigeons that would roll together at the same time as they were flying.
-
5
Find roller pigeon competitions in the area. These could be listed online, or through roller pigeon clubs. Compete in regional competitions, and as your pigeons win more and more competitions, begin competing across the country.
-
6
Enter the World Cup Fly if you qualify (see above step). This is an international event that is held annually. If you qualify in the regional competitions, you can compete in this prestigious international roller pigeon event.
