The Celtic Cross is a very common spread in tarot reading. Following are some steps to help you make a tarot Celtic Cross spread and develop an expertise with this ancient layout.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tarot Card deck
  1. Step 1

Determine the needs of your subject (or yourself). Ask what is to be gained from the reading. Ensure that you are reading with the explicit permission of the person for whom you are reading. Meditate on the problem or person before you begin.

  2. Step 2

Shuffle the tarot deck, and then have the person you are reading for cut the deck. While cutting the cards have the subject meditate on the question being posed.

  3. Step 3

Deal the cards out one by one in the following way: The first tarot card is put in the center of the table, the second card on top of the first laid crosswise over it, below both of these the third card. Place the fourth, fifth and sixth cards clockwise around the first two (the sixth card lies to the right of the first card and faces the same direction so the seventh is just below the sixth). Now lay the eighth, ninth and tenth cards above the sixth, one after the other.

  4. Step 4

Begin reading the cards one through ten. Consult a tarot book or resource for information on how to interpret the reading according to your preferred method of Tarot.

  5. Step 5

Have the subjects write down the meaning of the cards so that this can be referenced during the final interpretation. Pay special attention to reverse cards, and if using a modifier for the cards factor these influences in to the final reading.

Tips & Warnings
  • As the third, fourth, fifth and sixth cards are lain down, they should be facing the same direction as the first card, not the second.
  • Try a meditation exercise to relax before attempting to read to ensure maximum mental and spiritual capacity during the reading.
  • Try assigning meaning to the Celtic Cross spread of your own making. Consult with the subject to decide the progression of the cards, and their interpretation for an accurate reading.
  • Never indicate a "Death" card to your subject. Know that that card in the Tarot does not foretell or predict impending death. Be mindful of these kind of sensational readings.
