Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Make sure the ignition is turned off and the car is in park. Moving a sick, pregnant or old person out of a car is difficult enough without having the added danger of the car suddenly moving.
Step2
Get out of the car and walk around to the passenger's side to open the person's door. This allows you to pace the extraction as it best suits the situation's needs.
Step3
Check to make sure there are no obstructions or any tricky spots on the ground that might hinder a sick, pregnant or old person as they get out of the car. A trip here could be disastrous.
Step4
Offer your arm as something for the person to lean against, but don't insist that they take it. Forcing someone into an unnatural posture might make things more difficult for them than it needs to be.
Step5
Shut the car door for the sick, pregnant or old person only after you are sure they have safely cleared the area and are under their own power.
Step6
Remember that you might need to carry the person's bags or purse as well. This is, after all, only polite, and it can actually help speed things along.
