How to Use Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Game Cheats

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a classic game that's still enjoyed by gamers worldwide. You can use a few game cheats to get more lives or pick which level you want to play.

Use Cheats to Jazz Up Your Sonic Game

1. Turn on your Sonic the Hedgehog 2 game and go to the options menu. Go down to the "Sound Select" menu to enter different cheats.

2. Play sounds 19, 65, 09 and 17 in order and be sure to play each one only once. Press the C button and then the Start button to return to the title screen. Press and hold the A button and then press the Start button once Sonic and Tails appear on the screen and you'll be brought to the level-select menu.

3. Hold the C button after you choose a stage in the level-select screen to play in dark mode. Once you beat the level or die, this code turns off. Use this code to make familiar levels more challenging.

4. Go to the "Sound Select" option from the level-select screen and play sounds 04, 01, 02 and 06 in order. Now choose any level you want to play, collect 50 rings and then jump (A button) to turn into Super Sonic. You play in this invincible form until you fall into a hole and die or beat the current level.

5. Beat Sonic the Hedgehog 2 while you use the Super Sonic code to see the game's second ending for Sonic. You can also view this ending by playing the game normally and collecting all the Chaos Emeralds in each zone.

6. Listen to sounds 19, 65, 09, 17, 01, 01, 02 and 04 in order to get 14 continues in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. You won't hear any sound that confirms the code was input correctly, but once you start the game you will notice that you have 14 lives. Use this code with either Sonic or Tails.

Tips & Warnings

• If you press UP, UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, DOWN, and UP at the title screen, then Tail's name changes to Miles. This code doesn't affect game play at all.

• If you make a mistake entering a cheat, just go back to the first sound in the sequence to try again. You don't need to exit the options menu or reset the game.

• These Sonic cheats may not work on Wii Virtual Console games, although they will work with most emulators.
