How to Burn Movies off LimeWire

LimeWire is a peer-to-peer file-sharing program designed to let users share their digital entertainment libraries through the Internet. Though it's primarily used to share music in MP3 format, it can also be used to download movies. Once you've downloaded a movie, you can watch it through your computer's media player or burn it to a DVD so it can be watched on other computers or free-standing DVD players.

Instructions

Download a Movie Off LimeWire

Step1
Open the LimeWire application. PC users can find it by clicking the "Start" menu. Mac users can find the LimeWire application in their programs dock.
Step2
Click on the "Video" icon to limit your search results to movies.
Step3
Use the available search fields to find the movie you're looking for. A basic LimeWire search will allows you to enter title, type, year, rating or length. Movies can be downloaded in a variety of file types including MPEG, AVI and Quicktime.
Step4
Select a movie from the search results. Use the progress bar to monitor the download status. Once it reaches 100 percent, highlight the file name and click the red "Cancel" icon to clear it from the queue.

Burn a DVD Movie Off an Apple Computer

Step1
Insert a blank, recordable DVD into your computer's DVD burner drive. Your computer will be able to tell you've inserted a disc for burning movies and will open dialogue boxes to help navigate you through the process.
Step2
Click "Prepare" to mount the disc onto your desktop.
Step3
Open the iDVD program. It should have come installed on your computer. Find the iDVD icon in your application dock if it doesn't automatically open when the disc is inserted.
Step4
Drag and drop the downloaded movie from your computer desktop into the blank disc icon on your desktop. This will load a list of information onto the disc, but it will not burn the DVD movie.
Step5
Select the "Burn Disc" option from the "File" drop-down menu. You can also start the burning process by dragging the blank disc icon to your computer's "Trash" icon in the dock. The trashcan will change into a yellow and black symbol with the words "Burn Disc" above it.
Step6
Confirm your choice to burn the DVD when the dialogue box appears on screen.
Step7
Eject the disc when the burning process is complete. To do this, you can either drag and drop the burned disc icon into your trash or by selecting "File" and "Eject" from your drop-down menus.

Burn a DVD Off Windows Computers

Step1
Open the Windows Movie Maker application by clicking on the "Start" menu. It's also possible to open the program by inserting a blank disc into your DVD drive. Click "Burn a DVD Video Disc Using Windows DVD Maker" when the AutoPlay option appears on screen.
Step2
Click "File" from your drop-down menus. Select "Add Items" to import your downloaded video from Lime Wire.
Step3
Click the "Burn" button once the video has finished importing.
Step4
Select "File" and "Close" when the DVD has finished burning. This will quit the program.
Step5
Eject your burned DVD from the computer desktop.

Tips & Warnings

  • Set your DVD burner preferences to the UDF format. This way it will work with DVD players hooked up to televisions in addition to those inside personal computers.

on 1/10/2008 nyranda333...when you cannot view a movie using for instance windows media player, you probably don't have video codecs
