- Packet-filtering firewall
- TerminatorX program blocking software

Open the LimeWire application.

Select "Preferences" from the drop-down menus.

Click on the small gray triangle beside the "Uploads" option. This will expand options within this subgroup. You can now choose between "Basic" and "Slots."

Click on the "Basic" option. This will open three new sections within the "Preferences" window.

Locate the section titled "Upload Bandwidth."

Click the arrow located on the slider bar. Hold down your mouse button and slide the arrow as far to the right as possible. By doing this, you'll choose to dedicate 0 percent of your Internet bandwidth to uploading files, effectively blocking it.

Click the "Apply" button to save the changes you've made. This will block other LimeWire users from downloading files from your computer.

Select a packet-filtering firewall. When larger amounts of data are sent through the Internet, they're broken into "packets." A packet-filtering firewall is used to block packets of information, which are often used by file-sharing software programs.

Enter TCP for Protocol.

Enter 6346-6347 in the Service Ports. Do not change the other settings. Regardless of which packet-filtering firewall you use, these setting alterations will be identical.

Select "Insert" to apply these changes.

Add similar restrictions for UDP traffic.

Download TerminatorX installation software. This program can be used to block various kinds of computer programs, including peer-to-peer file sharing and online chat programs (see Resources below). Select a version of the program that's designed to run on your computer's operating system.

Double-click the TerminatorX installation icon. Select a destination to save the program to and begin the installation process. A series of screens will guide you through the process.

Complete the set-up process. Answer questions and follow the onscreen set-up prompts as they appear. Select the necessary program and port options to restrict the use LimeWire.

You sound highly ignorant of the LW program. Do you remember how to turn the computer on, or where to find it?
