LimeWire is a free file-sharing program that allows computer users to share files saved on their computers directly and easily. LimeWire playlists are used to queue selected songs from your library for playback. In addition to its use as a peer-to-peer file-sharing program, LimeWire can also perform the basic functions of a media player such as iTunes or Winamp. It's simple and fairly intuitive to create a playlist within LimeWire.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Create a Personalized Music Playlist in LimeWire

  1. Step 1

Open the LimeWire application. On Mac operating systems, you can click the LimeWire icon in the doc. PC users should navigate through the "Start" menu.

  2. Step 2

Open your LimeWire Library. To do this, you can either click the "Library" tab on the main LimeWire menu or you can open it from drop-down menus. Select "Navigation" and then "Library."

  3. Step 3

Locate a music file you'd like to add to your playlist. Highlight the file by clicking on it.

  4. Step 4

    Click the "Enqueue" icon.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the two previous steps with other songs to create the perfect playlists.

  6. Step 6

Double-click the name of any song in your playlist to start playback. The song will play within LimeWire's own audio player. The file name should turn green when it's playing.

  7. Step 7

Remove a song from your playlist by selecting with your cursor and then clicking the "Remove" icon.

  8. Step 8

Sort songs in your playlist in several different ways. To sort by one of the available categories, simply click that category's button. For example, clicking "Name" once will sort your playlist alphabetically by file name.

  9. Step 9

Save your playlist by clicking the "Save As..." icon.

  10. Step 10

Open a previously saved playlist by clicking the "Open..." icon. Select the desired playlist from the available menu and click "Open."

  11. Step 11

Select either "Continuous" or "Shuffle" to determine the manner in which your music is played. Continuous playback will play your songs in sequential order. Shuffle will play the songs in your playlist in a random order.

  12. Step 12

Import playlists from Winamp. Select the "Open..." icon and choose your Winamp playlist from the menu.

  13. Step 13

Consult LimeWire's official website for troubleshooting tips and FAQs (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • If the playlist you've created does not launch within the LimeWire Media Player, make sure it's been properly set up. Click on "Tools" from the menu bar. Then select "Options" and "Player." Make sure that the "Use LimeWire Media Player" option has been selected.

on 4/16/2009 Limewire's playlist creating ability is good as long as you are careful not to download viruses and the filter is not always reliable. I have also found this a slightly more reliable site that makes playlist creating really easy and to be a great source of virus free music: http://tinyurl.com/virus-free-music
