How to Use Restraints in Bondage Play

There are a variety of restraints on the market today that were designed for bondage play. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced bondage enthusiast, you will likely find yourself using restraints at some point--even if you only dabble in occasional light bondage with your partner.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use restraints for a variety of reasons in bondage play. Dominants like to humiliate their partners by making them immobile and exposing private body parts to the dominant's direct sight. Submissives enjoy the security of being bound, the feel of the material against their skin and the sense of helplessness. Dominants also enjoy control and restraints make control that much easier.

  2. Step 2

Choose restraints according to the material they are made from. Depending on the strength, durability and comfort level you are seeking, as well as how difficult they are to escape from. You'll find restraints in a range of fabrics. Besides traditional black leather, you'll find restraints to use that are made from neoprene, nylon, Velcro, vinyl and faux leather.

  3. Step 3

Restrain your partner's movement with ankle and wrist restraints, straps that wrap around the limbs to cuff hands or make them hobble. Most buckle in place but sometimes you'll find them with metal D-rings to anchor ropes, chains or other restraints to them.

  4. Step 4

Use handcuffs sparingly. The metal cuffs used to restrain prisoners are designed to be potentially painful so do not tighten them too much or put weight on them (such as making your partner lie on his back with hands in cuffs). Avoid the cheap ones you find in novelty shops and invest in a good pair that will stay secure.

  5. Step 5

Find armbands, thigh cuffs, collars and body harnesses to use in bondage play. These all restrain your partner in different ways so you can immobilize her and have easy access to different body parts. Restrain her to keep her still while you spank her, role play cops and robbers or provide "corporal punishment" when she has been naughty.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your bed isn't set up for bondage, get the bondage sheet (see Resources below). It has 4 anchor points that you can move around and attach the included cuffs to then secure your partner down. After playing, you can remove the anchors and use them as regular bed sheets. There are no knots to untie and they are strong when you're tied down but very easy to undo.
