Things You'll Need:
- Pokemon Yellow
- Gameboy or Gameboy Advance
-
Step 1
Find a copy of Pokemon Yellow. Since the game came out in 1999, you may have to settle for a used version. Check at gaming stores and online-auction sites for the best price.
-
Step 2
Put Pokemon Yellow into your Gameboy or Gameboy Advance. This game will not run in a Nintendo DS. Turn the power on, and it should start right away.
-
Step 3
Start your play and go speak with Professor Oak. He will give you your first Pokemon, called Pikachu. Unlike other versions of Pokemon, you do not have a choice for your first Pokemon.
-
Step 4
Listen for Pikachu's signature sounds whenever you talk to it. In Yellow, it will also display a small screen with Pikachu's current mood. Various items can be used to increase its mood, which needs to be high later in the game in order to get a special Pokemon.
-
Step 5
Catch a Mankey Pokemon as soon as possible. This monster can be found along Route 22 and will make the fight for your first badge much easier. The first boss, Brock, is actually immune to Pikachu's lightning attacks.
-
Step 6
Watch for graphical differences in enemy Pokemon. Some character sprites were changed to be similar to the Pokemon cartoon show.
-
Step 7
Catch a Jolteon Pokemon and use it in place of Pikachu. You cannot evolve Pikachu in the Yellow version, so it becomes somewhat weak later in the game. Another alternative would be to import a different evolution of Pikachu from a Red or Green game.
