Things You'll Need:
- Gameboy Advance or Nintendo DS
-
Step 1
Find and buy a copy of Pokemon Emerald. The game was first released in the spring of 2005, so you may have trouble finding a new copy. Check video game stores for used cartridges.
-
Step 2
Put the game into your Gameboy Advance or Nintendo DS to play it. If you bought a used game, you'll probably want to clear the saved file and start a new game instead of playing with someone else's file.
-
Step 3
Learn how to control your Pokemon collector. On the Gameboy advance, the D-pad moves the character around and navigates through menu options, the A-button talks to people and confirms commands and the B-button cancels a command or can be held to run on the world map. "Start" brings up the main menu and the "L" and "R" shoulder buttons can function like the "A" and "B" buttons.
-
Step 4
Pick your first Pokemon and start your adventure. In Emerald, you have a choice between Treecko, a grass Pokemon, Torchic, a fire one and Mudkip, a water Pokemon. No matter which one you pick, they will evolve at level 16 and level 36.
-
Step 5
Collect more and more Pokemon by catching them with a Pokeball when they are low on life in a battle. Continue to raise and train a select group of four or five Pokemon as you collect training badges and make your way towards the Elite Four at the end of the game.
-
Step 6
Keep playing after you beat the Elite Four, and you'll have access to the Battle Frontier. Here, you can earn points to buy moves and dolls for your Pokemon.
