Fishing is one of the earliest skills you will learn in Runescape. Learning to fish allows you to feed yourself and heal from any battle damage. You can begin fishing in Runescape right away. As you advance in levels, you can use different techniques to catch bigger and better fish.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Bait
  • Feathers (for fly-fishing)
  • Fishing rod
  • Small fishing net
  • Harpoon
  • Lobster cage
  • Runescape map

Enhance Your Runescape Fishing Skills

Step1
Get a small fishing net. You can buy, trade and find small nets.
Step2
Learn to recognize fishing spots. Fishing spots in Runescape are marked with the symbol of a blue fish in a circle.
Step3
Open the Runescape map.
Step4
Left-click on the key to open it and see all the different symbols used in Runescape.
Step5
Left-click on the fishing spot icon to highlight all the fishing spots on that map.
Step6
Left-click (in game play) on the fishing spot you want to try. Your player will walk to that spot.
Step7
Right-click with your mouse on the fishing spot, which shimmers silver. Right-clicking will show you the types of fishing you can do in that spot.
Step8
Select the fishing option you want to try by left-clicking on that option. Your player will automatically begin to fish.
Step9
Practice fishing until your inventory is full. You can take your fish to the bank to save it in case your player dies.
Step10
Build up your fishing skills in order to learn how to use new fishing tools like fishing rods, harpoons and lobster traps.
Step11
Learn barbarian fishing, a technique that will further improve your skill levels and let you fight the highest-level monsters, by developing your fishing skills and strength.

Tips & Warnings

  • New characters will get a small fishing net and a lesson on how to catch shrimp during their time on Tutorial Island.
  • If you lose your net, you can get a new one from the fishing tutor.
  • Practicing gives you experience in Runescape, which will in turn raise your fishing skill level.
  • You can trade with other players for fishing supplies or buy them at fishing shops, which are marked with a fishing rod and fish symbol.
  • There are some fishing spots that are only open to paid members.
  • You may not be able to fish a particular area until you have reached a minimum fishing level.
  • If you do not have the proper equipment for a particular type of fishing, the Runescape system will not allow you to fish.
