How to Play a Runescape Ranger

In Runescape, a ranger is a player who chooses to focus on ranged combat. Usually this means archery, but there are other ranged or "missile" weapons a ranger can use, including knives, axes, javelins and holy water. Ranged combat gives an advantage to the ranger because he can attack from further away and hide behind trees or other objects.

Play the Role of a Runescape Ranger

1. Visit Nemarti, the ranged combat tutor, north of Lumbridge Castle. She will give you some advice, a training short bow and 30 training arrows.

2. Begin training against chickens or cows north of Lumbridge. You can pick up their bones, meat, feathers or hides, as well as reclaim your arrows.

3. Buy better armor and weapons as your skill level increases.

4. Increase your woodcutting skills by chopping down trees. Once you reach woodchopping level 25, begin cutting oak trees. At level 30, cut willows. After you reach level 60, start to chop yew trees.

7. Get a full set of leather or dragonhide armor for the best defense.

8. Join a clan devoted to ranging. Your clan members will help you increase your ranged levels through group combat. They will also help you get better equipment so you can begin fighting high-level monsters more quickly.

9. Take a few friends with you and try PKing in the Wilderness area. The group of you can attack another player more successfully than you could alone.

Tips & Warnings

• Use the best metal and wood you can for your arrows and bows. This will reduce breakage and increase how many arrows you recover after shooting. Your ranged attack will also increase as you use better wood and metals.

• Always cut the highest-level trees you can, as they give you more experience and sell for more gold.

• Use the best metal axe your level allows.

• Rangers do better in combat against mages than warriors.

• Don't steal arrows from another ranger while she is in combat. It is considered rude by other Runescape players.

• When PKing (player killing) using a group attack in the Wilderness, you'll have to share your victim's items with your group.
