DUI is never look good in your record. I will describe some steps of what you need to do in case you got pulled over for a DUI suspicion.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mint candy
  • Designated driver
  • Portable breath test analyzer
  1. Step 1

As always, the best way to avoid DUI is not to drink in the party, stay over in your friend's house or have a designated driver.

  2. Step 2

If you do drink and you had to drive home, then make sure you still can see the road clearly. Drink a lot of water to help you sober up.

  3. Step 3

If you got pulled over by a police officer, try to take your mint candy so the police cannot smell your alcoholic breath. Also, never admit that you have had some drinks if the officer asked you, let the officer do their job and don't give them any probably cause.

  4. Step 4

If the officer asked you to do a field sobriety test or submit a breath test, politely refuse (yes, it's a voluntary test but most people might not know that) and tell the officer that you are invoking your fourth ammendment. That way you won't give the police any probable cause to write you a DUI ticket.

  5. Step 5

At this point, the officer can either let you go if he thinks you are sober or bring you to the police station to take the breath analyzer test.

  6. Step 6

If the police insist to take you to the police station, then you will have more time to sober up. If you think you are under the limit and willing to submit the test, submit a urine test since it's the most unreliable, if it's not available then breath test would do just fine, blood test is the most accurate one.

  7. Step 7

If you think you are confident that you will be over the limit if you submit the test, then you can refuse to take the test. This way, your license will be revoked for a certain period of time and you have to pay some fine to reinstate your license. However, it's still a lot better than getting a DUI charge.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always be polite when talking to the police officer
  • Find a good lawyer that know how to handle a DUI case if your license is revoked
  • Never run from the police when being pulled over
  • Don't drive if you cannot even walk straight
  • The field sobriety test is even hard to do when you are sober, practice them when you are sober (follow the pen, walk the line, standing in one foot, etc.) so you know your capability
