You don't have to be a creative painter to display a fabulous colorful look on those drab old wooden bar stools. Give them a whole new look by decoupaging the tops with your favorite design. They will not only look beautiful but will last forever.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wooden bar stool
  • Decoupage
  • Brushes for decoupage
  • Tissue paper (Any design)
  • Paint (Any color) for wood Kitchen sponge
  1. Step 1

A wooden bar stool works best for this type of project. Begin first by wiping down the barstool with a clean dry cloth. Sand and smooth any rough edges. There are several ways you can make your barstool look beautiful, such as using different colors, applying stains, hand painting decorative motifs, etc.

  2. Step 2

Select a colorful tissue paper that you wish to use for your project. You can either cut small sections to begin working with or you can cut a circle the size of the top of the barstool to begin your project. With a paint brush or foam brush, apply a clear sealant to the top of the chair. Do not apply a large amount, just enough to coat the top.

  3. Step 3

Next, place your tissue paper on top of the chair. Do not worry about wrinkles because most will come out after the air bubbles have been pressed out. Dip your brush back into the sealant (decoupage) and apply on top of the tissue paper. Work out all the bubbles by smoothing them out with gentle strokes. Some bubbles will remain in the chair but will come out after the chair dries.

  4. Step 4

When the chair dries, dress up the side of the stool with a colorful paint. Take a sponge and dip some paint onto the sponge and lightly dab around the rim of the chair. You can have fun with this and dab other places if you desire. Let dry.

  5. Step 5

If you really want to add a little shimmer to your chair, purchase some dangle fabric beading and trim chair edges with it using a hot glue gun or jewelry glue. Once you have finished creating a spectacular look for your barstool, then you will want to decorate more! After your chair has dried, you can apply a very light stain to the top of the chair to give it a warmer look. Now, you are ready to enjoy your new piece of furniture!
